A transitional mental health outpatient facility. Consists of 10 accommodation units and adapting existing buildings on the site to house the administration offices, communal living facility and utility/activity centre.
This facility is one of a number of projects being undertaken throughout the state to act as a ‘halfway’ house for mental health patients either ‘stepping down’ from hospital care or ‘stepping up’ from outside of any formal care.
The aim is to create a facility that is ‘de-institutionalised’ and nurturing to facilitate a restorative environment. The requirements are for a robust and low maintenance series of buildings, designed for the specific climate of the region but also with the issues associated with mental health patients at the forefront.
